The Cub Cadet Commercial Recon is a mid-range commercial zero turn riding mower. First brought to market in 2008, the Recon incorporates many of the features that have been standard on the Cub Cadet Commercial Tank zero turn into a full-sized commercial mower with an attractive price tag. With the Recon, you can get a fully commercial 60" zero turn with a fabricated commercial deck and a commercial warranty for under $7,000!

To make a long story short, the Recon is essentially an upgraded version of the Cub Cadet Commercial Tank that we were selling eight years ago. It has the same heavy-duty frame, dual 5-gallon fuel tanks, tire size, seat, and Command Cut Mowing deck. This combination made for a formidable beast to tame any lawn. Upgrades include the standard rollover protection system (ROPS), canister style air cleaner, pump & wheel motor drive system and 3-year commercial warranty.

The Cub Cadet Commercial Recon begins with a super stiff, ladder style frame made of 2" x 2" box channel. This is the largest frame material used in any zero turn on the market plus it's free of any bolt-together sections like those that are found on some competitive machines. Fastened to the front is a fabricated, fully oscillating front axle. An oscillating axle is something that Cub Cadet puts on all of their zero turn mowers from the smallest RZT all the way up to the Cub Cadet Commercial Commercial Tank series. A fixed front axle doesn't allow the machine to follow lawn contours and, quite often, forces one of the front wheels and half of the mower deck far above the ground when encountering severe terrain undulations resulting in an uneven cut. An oscillating axle also reduces scalping, allows the deck to follow the terrain better and makes for a smoother riding machine. Just like the Tank series, Recon's front wheels pivot on greasable Timken taper roller bearings.

Cub Cadet Commercial's Recon mowers feature dual, serviceable Kanzaki DUP-10 pumps and White wheel motors. The Recon is the first mower in Cub Cadet's hierarchy to have the traditional commercial-styled separate pump and wheel motor system. This system gives the Recon a speedy 10 mph forward travel speed and 5 mph in reverse. The drive system has an inexpensive cartridge-type oil filter and calls for synthetic oil.

If you've never operated a zero turn mower in the past it's very easy to learn and most people are very comfortable after only a few minutes on the machine. Learning to operate a zero turn mower like a professional can take several mowings to accomplish.

To make the machine move forward, simply push both lap bars forward. To reverse, pull both bars towards you. The harder you push or pull the faster you go. To turn the machine left or right you have to cause a differential between the two levers. For example if you're mowing straight forward and want to turn to the left, simply push further forward on the right control stick or pull back the left stick. The greater the differential between the two levers the more aggressively the machine will turn.

The operator area is very spacious. The left-hand control console houses the park brake and an oversized cup holder while the right-hand console contains the key switch, deck enragement knob, throttle and choke.

Engaging the mower deck is as simple as pulling a knob. The mower deck will run when the machine is moving forward, while turning, and in reverse. For safety reasons, residential machines automatically shut off when moving reverse but the Recon is intended for professional use allowing the mower deck to run no matter your direction of travel.

Cub Cadet Commercial's Recon series zero turns feature the Command Cut mower deck. First introduced in 2001, this deck was the industry standard for strength, cut quality, superior discharge and ease of maintenance. It's made of a combination of 7- and 10-gauge steel. The spindle areas are reinforced on both top and bottom with 7-gauge steel to prevent any flexing. The deck spindles themselves feature the largest diameter bearings in the industry: 1.25-inch diameter greasable Timken taper roller bearings enclosed in a cast-aluminum housing. Compare this to the 1-in diameter found on almost every competitive machine!

Recon comes in two cutting deck widths: 48- and 54-inch. Deck height adjustment is a breeze with the foot operated lift mechanism. There are 13 cutting height settings adjustable in quarter-inch increments allowing you to fine tune the cutting height to your conditions. Cleaning your mower deck has never been easier due to Cub Cadet Commercial's deck wash system. Simply attach the included fitting to your garden hose, plug the hose fitting into the deck fitting, turn on the water and engage your mower deck. The water is directed towards the center of the deck and the spinning blades fling air and water to help loosen any attached grass. This system works pretty well if you do it right after you mow but not at all if the grass has dried.

Need to do a more thorough cleaning or remove your blades? Pulling four cotter pins is all that's required to remove your mower deck. Removal is literally a 1 minute job and only a few minutes are required to reinstall.

Maintenance is a snap on Cub's Recon series zero turns. The engine air filter, fuel filter and oil filter are easily accessed from the rear of the machine. Draining the engine oil requires no tools as all Cub Cadet Commercials are equipped with a remote engine oil drain hose. Simply remove the hex plug at the end of the hose, aim at your bucket and let gravity do the rest.

The warranty on Cub Cadet Commercial's Recon series mowers is 2 years with no hour limitation. We recommend these mowers for yard sizes up to 4.2-5.3 acres, depending on deck size.

Mulch Kit

Add a commercial mulching kit to any Cub Cadet Commercial Recon to reduce the clipping size on your lawn. Our mulch kits contain everything you need to turn your discharging deck in to a mulching deck. You deck is predrilled for the included baffles which bolt on to almost totally isolate each blade. This forces the grass to stay near the blade and be cut multiple times. Special blades are included (if required) that are designed for cutting and recutting clippings.

Mulch kits are model specific and come with everything you need to install on your mower. Some kits come with one or multiple mower blades specifically designed to improve mulching performance. Commercial-grade mulching kits are expensive but install easily and can't be beat on performance. There's no comparison between these kits and a simple discharge baffle. Contact us for details on a mulching kit for your mower.

Collection System

Add a fan-assist grass bagger to any Cub Cadet Commercial Recon mower for added versatility! Baggers come in 3-bag configurations for both deck sizes. The fan assist blower is belt driven from a pulley that attaches to the discharge side deck spindle. The fan rotates on greasable pillow block bearings and is made of hardened steel for long life. The hopper is made from heavy-gauge tube steel and has a thick mesh top which allows air out and keeps grass and debris in. The cloth bags have a hard plastic bottom with built-in handles for easy emptying. No matter if spring grass or fall leaves is your project, the Cub Cadet Commercial fan assist bagger for the Recon series will get the job done!

Bagger kits are model specific and come with everything you need to install on your tractor. Some kits come with one or multiple mower blades specifically designed to improve bagging performance. Contact us for details on a bagger for your mower. Some machines do a better job than others collecting grass and we'll be happy to recommend the right mower for your application!

Work Light Kit

Mowing after dark? You shouldn't have to with the time you'll be saving with your zero turn. If you must, we have a work light kit for your Recon. These lights install easily and include all necessary mounting brackets and wiring. There's an integrated on/off switch that you'll use to control your lights.

We've personally used these lights and they do a really nice job lighting up both in front of you and off to the side. Contact us for details!

Snow Blade

If you're really looking to increase the versatility of your Recon zero turn add a snow blade! This 72-inch blade attaches in place of your deck and uses the deck lift mechanism to raise and lower. Manual angling is standard. Don't be concerned about the ability of your Recon to push the white stuff. With the majority of the weight located over the drive wheels putting power to the ground is no problem, however we recommend Cub Cadet Commercial's all-terrain wheel and tire kit or swapping out your turf tires for a set of bar/flotation tires.

Electric Deck Lift

Make raising & lowering your mower deck even easier! Cub Cadet Commercial offers an electric deck lift kit that uses an electric actuator to change deck positions with the push of a button.

All-Terrain Tires

If you're adding the 72" snow blade to your Cub Cadet Commercial Recon, mow wet areas or cut on hillsides, Cub Cadet Commercial's A/T Tire and Wheel Kit is an option you should seriously consider. This kit contains a pair of all-terrain tires mounted on a set of Cub Cadet Commercial rims. These tires have deeper, more aggressive lugs than do the standard turf tires and help give you the extra bite that you need for your low-traction application.

The only downside to these tires is they're slightly narrower and shorter than the factory turf tire. You're giving up a little flotation because of this and we've had many customers successfully swap out a set of bar/flotation tires for their turf tires. The bar flotation tires look like a farm tractor tire except the raised bars don't stick out very far. These tires are available in the same size as your factory tire and therefore give you the same flotation with increased traction. Don't worry about these tires tearing up your turf as they maintain their traction really well and seldom slip. These bar/flotation tires will go on your factory rims and are more cost effective route to go especially if you want to run them all year long.

Striping Kit

New this year is a striping kit for your Cub Cadet Commercial Recon zero turn. This kit mounts on the rear of your mowing deck in place of the factory roller. Cub Cadet Commercial mower decks leave a very impressive stripe in your yard right from the factory but this kit makes it more pronounced. The striping kit consists of a full-width roller made out of a really tough poly material. Springs maintain down pressure on the rollers which is what allows this roller to give you slightly better results than the factory deck roller. This kit is a must if you're looking to have the absolute best looking lawn on the street!
