Cub Cadet's 4x2 and 4x4 utility vehicles are leaders in their class giving you the best ride, more cargo area and unsurpassed engine options.
Cub Cadet begins construction of these brutes at CTP, their fabrication facility right here in Streetsboro , Ohio. Other high-end products made at this facility are Cub Cadet Commercial zero-turn mowers and Cub Cadet Yanmar front loaders.
The frame, constructed of various shapes of tubular steel, is welded together to make the very stiff backbone that everything else connects to. Once fabrication is complete, the entire frame and skid plate assembly is sent through a powder coating chamber where paint is forced into every nook and cranny sealing away rust-causing moisture. Then the frame is baked at a very high temperature which melts the powder paint into to the smooth, glossy surface that you see on completed units.
Once complete, truck loads of Cub Cadet Volunteer frames are shipped to Cub's state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Brownsville, TN. The only other machines made in Brownsville are Cub Cadet's premium 2500 series and 3000 series garden tractors. There, the Volunteer takes shape.
First, front and rear axles are installed, both of which come standard with automotive-style disc brakes. Rear axles include a cast-iron locking differential. Each axle is attached with a coil-over shock, dual A-arm, fully-independent suspension. This style suspension gives the Cub Cadet Volunteer best-in-class ride, traction and stability when compared to most utility vehicles that have a fixed rear axle. The smooth ride over rough terrain is one of the best features of the Volunteer and we can't say enough about how enjoyable it makes these UTV's for recreational riding.
Next, depending on how it's ordered, Cub Cadet installs your choice of a 624cc Kohler, 748cc liquid-cooled Kohler EFI or an 854cc Yanmar liquid-cooled diesel. Coupled to the power plant is a variable belt & pulley CVT drive and a two-speed transmission. The CVT drive is similar to those on many ATV's and snowmobiles but is shielded within a water tight housing to eliminate slippage when fording rivers. Cooling air is pulled into the CVT housing from an intake located just left of the operator's seat. As long as you're dry, your CVT drive isn't going to slip.
The transmission is a very simple non-synchronized sliding gear system with both high and low forward gears and a single reverse gear. Put the Hurst shifter into high to enjoy faster travel speeds ? up to 32 MPH on the 748cc model! Select low for towing those heavy loads or climbing West Virginia hillsides.
Cub Cadet now adds a radiator to your Volunteer if you opted for the either liquid-cooled engine option. The radiator is mounted beneath the front hood and is well up out of harms way of a rogue tree branch or dirt and mud that could clog the fins. An electric fan cycles on a thermostat keeping air moving through the radiator and your engine cool.
The automotive-style electrical system is installed next. Like the radiator, the fuse and relay block are also protected under the front hood. The modular wiring harness then extends to the dash panel and back to the engine. Provisions for electrical accessories aren't included at this time to minimize the cost for customers looking for a more basic model. An additional wiring harness is required when adding any electrical accessories and is installed by our service technicians during pre-delivery.
The last part of the assembly process is the installation of cosmetic components such as the front hood made of a (nearly) indestructible polymer resin. The hood is hinged in the front and latches with a pair of rubber catches that hold pressure on the hood preventing rattling. The high-back seats are installed as are the seat belts and side mounted park brake handle. Last, the steel cargo box is bolted on. This 51.6" x 42" x 11.5" cargo box is big enough to haul a full sized pallet and up to 14.4 cu-ft of material. It has a 1000 lb capacity and comes standard with a gas strut bed lift assist to ease the burden of manually dumping heavy loads. If dumping material is something you plan to do regularly, add the optional power dump to raise the bed from the operator's seat.
When your Cub Cadet Volunteer reaches our dealership it's (almost) fully assembled. It's been test run at the factory and passed a rigorous series of tests before being shipped our way. Once we receive it we install the Roll Over Protection System (ROPS for short), go through our own series of pre-delivery checks and install any optional accessories. Finally your Cub Cadet Volunteer is sent through our detail shop and delivered to you ready to work and/or play!
